Megaworld to launch Finland’s SuperPark in the Philippines
The first activity park will open in Eastwood City and will be followed by another in McKinley Hill.
Megaworld Lifestyle Malls will open the first indoor activity park, SuperPark, on 27 October, First Vice President Graham Coates said.
Coates said the game park from Finland is a response to the need to have amusement and entertainment in its malls.
He said retail is all about “emotion” and “tactile experience,” adding that retailers should develop “empathy” towards customers.
“We do it by innovation. We pride ourselves in Megaworld that we come up with new concepts the same way you come up with new products,” he said at a panel discussion at the Manila leg of the Retail Asia Forum.
“We're doing that because our customers are expecting it and we know that that’s our competitive edge” he added.
Megaworld signed an agreement with SuperPark last July to operate two locations in the Philippines. The first SuperPark will be established in Eastwood City in Quezon City, followed by another in McKinley Hill in Taguig City.
According to Megaworld, SuperPark Philippines will include three purpose-built themed areas with over 20 activities designed for all ages.
Coates said that with the SuperPark concept, entertainment will be a key driver of the retail experience in their mall.
“The benefit of SuperPark is that it will engage our younger group of customers, but it will also increase the length of stay in our mall. This will be a benefit not only to Superpark but also to our adjacent tenants and food outlets,” he told Retail Asia at the sidelines of the forum.
One of the key areas is the Adventure Area which will include activities with obstacles, climbing structures, a toddler’s ball game and a digital wall. The Game Arena, meanwhile, will feature sports-themed activities supported by digitalisation.
