Uniqlo Japan same-store sales slip by 7.1% in January
This was due to a lack of inventory of thermal clothing.
Uniqlo Japan reported its same-store sales declined by 7.1% year-on-year, whilst its total sales, including sales made online also dropped by 6.3% in January.
The clothing retailer attributed the decrease to a lack of inventory of thermal clothing, as well as insufficient promotion sales during the sales period.
A delay in the launch of Uniqlo Japan’s Spring ranges resulting from the late entry of stock also contributed to the same-store sales drop.
Same-store sales refer to sales made in directly-run stores that have been in operation for the full business term.
Uniqlo Japan noted the data reported in January excludes sales from four other Uniqlo stores that remained temporarily closed due to the pandemic.
Six stores have, however, closed during the month. This is in addition to the 8 that closed in September, two in October, one each for November and December, bringing the total closures to 18.
Meanwhile, Uniqlo Japan have opened 12 stores since September last year.
