Reliance purchases rights to Sephora brand for India expansion
It will take over Arvind Fashions' operations of 26 Sephora stores in the country.
India's Reliance Beauty & Personal Care Limited, a specialty subsidiary of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL), and Sephora have inked a partnership, with RRVL receiving exclusive rights to the Sephora brand.
Under the deal, RRVL will supervise the India operations of 26 Sephora stores across 13 cities from India-based textile company Arvind Fashions Limited and the expansion to other territories in the country. All Sephora stores and online channels will remain unchanged during the transition.
The collaboration of both luxury retailers is envisioned to expand into India’s prestige beauty market and heighten Sephora’s presence across channels.
“Rising affluence, increasing urbanisation and the proliferation of social media have driven greater awareness of self-care and beauty, unlocking major opportunities for prestige beauty. It is an opportune time for us to invest in expanding our presence, and bring new, exciting, and exclusive brands to delight our growing community of beauty enthusiasts,” Alia Gogi, President of SEPHORA Asia, stated.
With the partnership, both brands will represent a huge mark over the Indian beauty and personal care market, which is valued at $17b and set to grow by 11%.
Since starting operations in India back in 2012, Sephora has been a prominent player in India’s massive consumer base with its unique variety, product curation, and customer experience. RRVL remains the largest retailer in India and one of the fastest-growing globally.
