Emart24 rolls out emergency detection system in unmanned store

The system can detect customers collapsing or signs of property damage.

Shinsegae-owned Emart24 has introduced an emergency detection system at its fully automated Smart Coex store in southern Seoul to maximize security and convenience, Korea Bizwire reported.

The emergency detection system can detect emergencies including customers collapsing or property damage via smart cameras installed throughout the store. The artificial intelligence (AI) system is also capable of recognizing human voices calling for help.

Once the system detects an emergency, the AI chatbot sends out a voice notification throughout the store. If the situation continues for more than 10 seconds, a notification is sent to the store manager or the control center for an immediate response.

In addition, the company has introduced Sparos Smart Shelf which sells cigarettes only to adult customers. Customers are required to go through a self-identification process to unlock the machine and allow them to pick their product of choice.

Emart24’s Smart Coex Store, which opened last year, is an unmanned, fully automated convenience store, allowing customers to simply grab what they need and leave the store with their payment processed automatically.
