Cultivating an inclusive culture in the workplace
Themed “Focus on abilities – Training, hiring and integrating persons with disabilities”, the Inclusive Business Forum 2018 happening on 25 July aims to encourage companies to embark on an inclusive hiring journey and guide potential employees improve their skills and confidence for better employment prospects.
Organised by SG Enable (an agency dedicated to enabling persons with disabilities), the event will give participants an opportunity to learn how inclusive organisations tap into the talent pool of persons with disabilities, and how these differently-abled individuals add value to organisations. It will also highlight the critical success factors and share practical insight into becoming an inclusive employer.
Speaking to Retail Asia on why retailers should hire this group of job candidates, Tan Ko We, SG Enable’s director of Employment and Employability, said: “Persons with disabilities are a valuable talent source. When companies focus on their abilities, persons with disabilities can bring needed skills and contribute to a company’s performance through increased productivity and lower turnover. Many companies also see that as colleagues learn to interact with co-workers with disabilities, they become more embracing of one another’s differences, develop more empathy and have a deeper appreciation of how everyone can contribute to the organisation’s success.”
The biennial forum will feature breakout sessions with social enterprises and companies from different fields, and they will share strategies to create meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities for individuals with special needs.
Registration for the forum has now closed due to overwhelming response.
