Metro Retail expands Visayas footprint with three-storey facility
Construction is set to begin in early 2027.
Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) will develop a three-storey retail facility in Ormoc City, expanding its presence in the Visayas.
MRSGI and the Local Government Unit of Ormoc have formalised a partnership for the project, which will be located at the corner of Real, Lopez Jaena, and Rizal Streets.
Site handover and groundbreaking are targeted for late 2026, with construction set to begin in early 2027.
The development will include a Metro Supermarket and Metro Department Store, as well as retail spaces for food and service tenants and dedicated parking.
“Ormoc serves as an important commercial and economic center in Eastern Visayas, making it a strategic location for expanding our retail presence in the region,” said Joselito Orense, President and COO of MRSGI. “With Metro Ormoc, we are bringing together our retail formats in a development that responds to local consumer needs whilsr creating opportunities for local businesses, suppliers, and workers to participate.”
The project will also create direct and indirect jobs in construction, retail operations, facilities management, and logistics.
MRSGI plans to allocate commercial space to regional vendors and local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Its retail offerings will also include Ormoc’s agricultural produce, native delicacies, and artisanal products.
“When we do business in a new site, we want it to be a partnership with the communities we work with,” said Sherisa Nuesa, chairperson of the Board of Directors of MRSGI. “Metro found alignment in Ormoc City wanting to showcase its native products and delicacies.”
The proposed building will feature roof-deck solar panel infrastructure as part of its energy-efficiency measures.
